With a population of 1.5 million people, the city is an important producer of textiles and plastics, as well as agricultural products such as rice, dairy, fruits, and vegetables. Villa Nueva is also home to the Naciones Unidas National Park, one of the last remaining nature reserves in the metropolitan area of Guatemala City.
