Oman has about 5.19 million people, making it the 122th-most populous country in the world. Oman has several large cities. Its most populous city is Muscat, which is also the nation’s capital. Muscat’s population is 797,000, with an estimated 1.4 to 1.55 million people in its governorate. Muscat is also growing between 2.5% to 11.2% annually in the last ten years. Seeb is the second-largest city in Oman, with about 238,000 people. Salalah, the capital of Dhofar, has about 163,140 people. Four other cities have populations of over 100,000: Bawshar, Sohar, As Suwayq, and `Ibri. Together, these seven cities have over 1.67 million people, almost one-third of Oman’s total population. Another eight cities have populations of over 50,000.

About 85.44% of Oman’s population lives in cities or urban areas. This is a growth of over 10% from 2009, when the urban population was 74.62%. The urbanization rate is relatively high in Oman at 5.25% annually.
