Smartest Countries 2019

Determining which countries are the smallest in the world is difficult because there are so many different factors that can be considered. For example, would the smartest country be the one with the most literate citizens? Maybe the smartest countries in the world would be categorized by the average IQ score of their residents. Standardized test scores could be another factor used to determine which nations are the smartest.

As you can see, there won’t be one clear answer. However, studies have been performed and statistics have been gathered based on these different factors to compile lists of the world’s smartest cities. Although the order may be slightly different, most of the same countries are found on each, showing a connection. It only makes sense. After all, a country with a high literacy rate would outperform illiterate citizens on reading tests.

One study that has been used to measure the most intelligent nations is the Intelligence Capital Index, or ICI. This index uses a number of factors to determine which nations are most likely to come up with most advanced ideas of the future.

Based on this study, the United States is ranked number one and is the only nation to receive an A+ rating. Coming in second place is the United Kingdom, followed by Germany in third place.

Other high-ranking nations on the ICI include Australia, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Canada, Finland, and Denmark.

A study completed by British professor Richard Lynn between 2002 and 2006 measured the IQ of citizens across 80 nations. According to this study, Hong Kong and Singapore are tied for first place with an average national IQ of 108. South Korea trails just slightly behind with an average IQ of 106. Other nations that have the highest national IQs include Japan, China, Taiwan, and Italy.

Another study was performed by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. The OECD used data including adult education level to determine the world’s smartest nations. Based on this data, Canada was listed as the most intelligent nation. Japan placed second, while Israel came in third. Additional high-ranking nations include Korea, the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, and Finland.
