Life Expectancy is the average number of years that a newborn is expected to live based on mortality rates. From 1950 to 2000, average life expectancy worldwide increased by nearly 20 years, to a total of 65 years. Since 2000, it has continued to rise and is now over 71 years according to the most recent statistics.
