How Many People Live on Maui?

When people think about Hawaii, they usually think about the county of Maui. Maui has a population of approximately 166,000 people. The population has been growing gradually during the past 10 years. For example, in 2011, Maui had a population of approximately 160,000 people. Therefore, the population has grown by approximately 3 to 4 percent during the past decade. At the same time, Maui is a relatively small area. It will not be able to support a large population when compared to cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York. At the same time, there are several reasons why a lot of people are moving to Maui.

Why Do People Enjoy Living on Maui?

There are a few reasons why so many people love living on Maui. First, Maui has absolutely beautiful weather. It is not nearly as hot as people think. Maui is not as hot as a lot of the islands in the Caribbean, so people do not need to worry about baking in the sun. On the other hand, Maui is still warm throughout the entire year.

Furthermore, the people who live on the island of Maui are extremely friendly. Everyone is open to welcoming visitors, and many people love welcoming people who are moving there permanently. Moving to Hawaii can be a significant adjustment, and it is helpful to have a supportive local population.

Finally, the food is absolutely delicious. A lot of people do not realize the unique flavors that go into Hawaiian cuisine. One of the best ways to experience everything that Hawaiian Cuisine has to offer is to visit the island of Maui.

Is the Cost of Living High on Maui?

Yes, the cost of living can be very high on Maui. Even though it is not nearly as high as it is in New York City or Los Angeles, it is still more expensive than most other parts of the United States. That is because everything that is sold on Maui has to be flown in from other locations. Even though there are some items that can be made right there on the island, Hawaii has to import a lot of goods from other locations. This increases the cost of living on Maui.

Is the Population of Maui Growing or Shrinking?

During the past 10 years, the population of Maui has increased by a little bit. At the same time, the population of Maui is limited by the amount of available land. Even though there is still land available to build new houses in the local area, it is limited by the boundaries of the island and the government protection that has been placed on local lands. Just because there is land available doesn't necessarily mean construction companies can build on it. Therefore, there will be a limit to the number of people the island can support. It will be interesting to see how much the population grows during the next few years.
