Russian Population by State 2024

Russian Population by State 2024

Russian Americans are dispersed throughout the United States, with some states having higher percentages than others. North Dakota has the highest percentage of Russian Americans at 2.46%, followed by New York (1.83%) and New Jersey (1.65%). In total numbers, California has the highest number of Russian Americans with 354,766, followed by New York with 357,721. The lowest percentage of Russian Americans is found in Mississippi, with only 0.12% of the population being of Russian descent.

When considering the distribution of Russian Americans across different states, it's interesting to note that some states with historically significant Russian communities have relatively lower percentages of Russian Americans. For instance, Alaska, which was originally colonized by Russians, has only 1.1% of its population consisting of Russian Americans. Similarly, the state of Washington, which has one of the largest populations of Russian Americans in absolute numbers, has only 1.06% of its population identifying as Russian American. On the other hand, some states with smaller Russian communities, such as Connecticut and Massachusetts, have higher percentages of Russian Americans, at 1.36% and 1.31%, respectively. Overall, these data suggest that while Russian Americans are present in many parts of the United States, their distribution can vary widely between states.
