Population of Cities in Nevada (2019)

Nevada is the 33rd most populous state in the U.S. and has a population of almost 3 million according to 2017 estimates. The state’s most populated city is Las Vegas, which has an estimated population of 623,747. It is trailed significantly by nearby Henderson, which has a population of 285,667. Reno and North Las Vegas round out the other two cities with population counts of more than 100,000. The state’s capital, Carson City, ranks 6th among the other cities in terms of population, with 54,521 inhabitants.

The state has a total of 19 incorporated municipalities that are legally designated as cities. The state capital, Carson City, is an exception and is classified as an independent city not belonging to any of the state’s 17 counties. Cities in Nevada are classified by their population to determine wards, council structure, and city clerks. There are three categories for cities that are based on population. The smallest city in the state is Caliente in Lincoln County, which has a population of just 1,130 as of the 2010 U.S. Census.
