Even though Israel as a country is not that old, people have inhabited the area in present-day Israel for millennia. The first people to settle in the land that is known as Israel were the Canaanite tribes. They have inhabited the area since the middle of the Bronze Age. During that time, the only people living in Israel were relatively small tribes. Water was a bit more common in the area, but it was still a relatively scarce resource. Then, organized civilization began to develop around the 9th century BC, which is when Israel began to occupy a significant place in human history.
Fragments from the history of Israel can be found in the Bible along with numerous other holy texts. Israel occupies a very significant place in all three major religions because of Jerusalem, which is one of the holiest places on Earth. Followers of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism all believe Israel to be a very important, holy, and historic place because of the ties between Jerusalem and Jesus. Therefore, much of the history of Israel can be found in the Bible, along with numerous other holy texts, although it is always helpful to compare this to an academic resource.
There are times when the land in present-day Israel was controlled by a foreign power. For example, the neo-Babylonian Empire ruled Israel during the 6th century BC. Eventually, this empire fell, but there were numerous other empires that rose in its place. For example, the Achaemenid Empire, Alexander the Great, and the Roman Empire all controlled the land surrounding Israel at various points in history. In addition, Israel was controlled by the Crusaders at various points throughout its history. Eventually, the Ottoman Empire controlled Israel for several centuries. The Ottoman Empire collapsed at the end of World War 1, and control of Israel shifted once again.
During the middle of the 19th century, there was a large Zionist movement that rose in the area. There was a strong push to create a homeland for the Zionists, which ultimately led to the creation of Israel. At the end of World War 1, the Ottoman Empire collapsed. Control of Israel was ceded to the British Empire. Britton controlled Israel for several decades, but at the end of World War II, the United Nations was formed. The United States, the major superpower remaining at the end of World War II, was pushing for self-determination across the world. Therefore, it encouraged Britain to grant Israel its independence. In 1948, the modern country of Israel was created, and it continues to stand to this day. Even though there is a significant amount of turmoil in the area, the history of modern Israel dates back to 1948, but conflicts between Israel and Palestine continue to lead to violence in the modern era.
