Contrary to some popular beliefs, Lincoln is the capital of Nebraska and not Omaha. Beautiful architecture peppers the landscape, as evidenced by its buildings, galleries, and museums. The State Capitol building of Lincoln is one of the largest and most well-known in the country. Lincoln is also home to many of the arts, which are showcased in both the Sheldon Museum of Art and the Nebraska State Fair, which occurs annually.
The state fair is an extremely popular event, with many traveling across the ocean to visit its beautiful display of local culture. Nebraska's top businesses, restaurants, and entertainment venues produce exhibits for all to see.
Omaha is Nebraska's largest city and is sometimes confused as being the capital of the state. It is located on the easternmost part of the topography and contains a rich array of historical landmarks which have created the amazing culture that is deep-rooted in the American spirit. The Joslyn Art Museum is one such landmark, which features multiple displays, collections, and exhibits of American artwork from the past, the nation, and around the world.
The Durham museum is located in downtown Omaha and opened its doors in 1975 to curious visitors. There are still hundreds of tourists that come to see its prized collection daily, and the weather does not seem to be a factor. The museum is centered around teaching the public about the history of the United States, specifically in the western region of the country.
Finally, the Strategic Air Command Museum is dedicated to the USAF. Located between Lincoln and Omaha, the exhibition is centered around missiles, hardware, and weaponry commonly found on American aircraft. The premier attraction in the museum is the Avro Vulcan bomber, which was a fighter in the British Royal Air Force during the Cold War.
If museums aren't your thing, Omaha has one of the greatest-rated zoos in the entire country. The Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium is unique, as it combines both marine and land animal diversity. There are over 17,000 animals, with many of them being exotic imports from around the world, cared for by the best zoologists and their teams. The zoo also contains the largest indoor rainforest in the nation.
Still calling Omaha, Nebraska his home, Warren Buffett is a national icon that is known throughout the world and is one of Nebraska's most famous living celebrities. The ultimate symbol of the old American dream, Buffett only started making a sizable portion of his income in his late 50s. He has consistently been named one of the richest people in the world, at times his fortune was the first on the entire planet. With the rise of the hypervalued tech scene, Buffett has dropped in his rankings but has recently made it back to the 5th position due to his sizable investments in his large holding company, Berkshire Hathaway.
An interesting fact is that Berkshire Hathway was acquired as a struggling textile manufacturing plant, and is the highest-priced (per share) company in the United States, and the top 10 in the world.
