Google wasn't the first search engine to hit the World Wide Web. Far from it actually, as there were almost two dozen search engines that showed up on the scene before Google debuted in the late 1990s.
Google has, however, turned into the most-used search engine on the planet. With more than 154 billion monthly visits, it's also the most-visited website in the world.
Google is more popular in some countries than others, though. Here is a list of the most Google users by country in 2023.
Google was first founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin while they were students at Stanford University in California. So it shouldn't come as a shock to hear that the U.S. lands at the top of the list of the most Google users by country in 2023.
Google's monthly traffic in the U.S. consists of more than 18 billion visits. That accounts for approximately 18% of all Google's traffic each month.
There is still a very wide margin between No. 1 and No. 2 on this list of the most Google users by country in 2023. While the U.S. registers over 18 billion monthly visits to Google, India visits the search engine's website under 12 billion times.
But it might not be too long before India begins to gain ground on the U.S. A recent study showed that India generates about 94% of its desktop search traffic through Google. That's more than any other country in the world.
After the U.S. and India, there is a very steep decline in the monthly traffic that Google generates in other countries. Japan lands at No. 3 on the list with between 5 and 6 billion monthly visits to Google.
Of all the entries on this list of the most Google users by country in 2023, Indonesia might be the most surprising. It has been able to creep up to No. 4 by generating between 4 and 5 billion monthly visits to Google.
Brazil rounds out this list of the most Google users by country in 2023. It generates over 3 billion monthly visits to Google and accounts for more than 3% of Google's traffic each month.
