Israel is a beautiful country full of rich history. Its second largest city is Tel Aviv and this part of the country is the most densely populated area in all of Israel. Tel Aviv has traditionally been an area marked by war and terrorist activity, but today the city is known for its technologically advanced area known as 'Silicon Wadi'. The city is constantly growing and many of the past problems in Tel Aviv are coming to an end.

City Size and Population Density

Tel Aviv is a city that is growing with each passing year. The most recent census of 2011 stated that the current population was 405,000 people, with the land of Tel Aviv spreading over 52 square kilometers. If that seems like a lot of people to be packed into a small space, it is – the population density of Tel Aviv is 7,606 people for every square kilometer. The annual growth rate is a consistent .5%.

Religion Demographics

You cannot possibly talk about a historic place such as Tel Aviv without mentioning religion. Religion has always played a huge part in the city of Tel Aviv, and statistics show that 91.8% of the population identifies as Jewish, although various Jewish beliefs are found throughout the city. A minority of the population also practices the Muslim and Christian faiths, with 4.2% claiming to be part of one of these religions. The remaining 4% of the population belongs to various Christian and Asian religions.

Age Structure

Since Tel Aviv is such an old city, one would expect that the citizens would be old as well. However, due to the steep decline in population during the 1960s when the cost of living soared and forced residents to move, only 14.6% of the population is 65 years and older. 22.2% of the population is below the age of 20 and 18.5% are between the ages of 20 and 29. The 30 to 44 age bracket makes up 16.2% and the 45 to 59 age bracket makes up 19.1% of the population.

Unemployment Rates

Unemployment rates throughout the world seem to be shifting all the time, and Tel Aviv is no different. The current unemployment rate stands at 6.9%, which is 20% higher than the national average. In 2012 the rates were substantially lower at 5.3%. That was the lowest unemployment rate the city had seen since records started.

Beaches and Attraction in Tel Aviv

The main tourist attraction in Tel Aviv are the spectacular beaches. There are 13 in total and each one has been equipped with free changing rooms and toilets, unlike other beaches that require guests to purchase a room for the night or charge a small fee for the amenities. The beaches are monitored by trained staff from 7am to 7pm. Some beaches, such as Gordon Beach, also provide access to free fitness facilities.
