Mount Everest is the highest mountain above sea level. It is situated on the border of China and Nepal. The border of China and Nepal runs right through the summit of Mount Everest. Therefore, China is located on one side of Mount Everest, and Nepal is located on the other side of Mount Everest. Mount Everest itself is located in the Himalayan mountain chain, and there are people from all over the world who come to try to climb Mount Everest every year. It is considered to be a dangerous ascent, and it is only attempted by the most experienced climbers in the world.
The first people who were recorded to reach the top of Mount Everest were from the United Kingdom; however, there is a chance that some people made it to the top before people started keeping track of those who made the ascent. For a long time, Nepal did not allow anyone from outside of the country in. Therefore, some people who lived in Nepal could have climbed to the top of the mountain before British explorers. The first people who were documented to make it to the top of the mountain were Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary, who climbed to the top in 1953 from the southeast. Several other people had tried to make it to the top prior to them, but they did not make it all the way up.
Hundreds of people have died on Mount Everest, and there are a number of hazards that exist. For example, the extremely high winds, which get stronger as you go up the mountain, have the potential to blow people right off the mountain itself. In addition, the higher up you go, the thinner the air gets. This means that your body is deprived of oxygen, which can make it difficult to think straight and use your muscles. In addition, the weather can change quickly, and blizzards can bury people if the avalanches do not. Because of all of these dangers, it is extremely time-consuming for someone to get permission to climb Mount Everest.
The vast majority of people who try to climb Mount Everest do so with a sherpa. A sherpa is a member of the local population who is intimately familiar with the mountain. Even though it is not necessarily required for someone to climb the mountain with a sherpa, it is highly recommended. A sherpa is someone who understands the various pads that are available, and they can provide tips, help avoid specific obstacles, and keep people safe. Even though it can be expensive to hire a local sherpa, it is an important safety measure. A sherpa can also make sure that everyone in the party has access to the equipment they need to climb the rocks and cliffs safely.
