Zaxby's is a very popular fast-casual restaurant chain. What that means is that Zaxby's is not technically a fast food restaurant, even though there are some Zaxby's that have drive-up locations. There are lots of people who go to Zaxby's, order a meal, and sit down in the restaurant to eat it after it is brought out to them. Zaxby’s has become popular because of its famous white breast fillet, usually double-breaded. Zaxby's also has a wide selection of milkshakes that people enjoy. During the past few decades, Zaxby's has expanded its footprint significantly, and it is now found in numerous states across the country.
Zaxby's is generally found in states throughout the southeast. The very first Zaxby's was opened in Statesboro, Georgia. It opened its doors in March 1990, and it was an immediate sensation. Since that time, Zaxby's has expanded its footprint to include 616 locations scattered throughout 19 states. The states that have Zaxby's locations include Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Virginia. The menu at most Zaxby's locations is generally the same, even though there might be some slight regional variations from time to time. Zaxby's continues to rapidly expand, with new branches opening up all the time.
Given that Zaxby's started in Georgia, it should come as no surprise that Georgia also has the most branches. Georgia is estimated to have approximately 153 Zaxby's branches, representing a significant portion of its total restaurant portfolio.
Because Zaxby's is not exactly a sit-down restaurant and not exactly fast food, it has a lot of competitors across the board. For example, there are a lot of fast-food restaurants that compete with Zaxby's regularly. Examples include McDonald's, Burger King, KFC, and Hardee's. There are other regional fast food restaurants that also consider Zaxby's to be a major competitor, such as Chick-fil-A. In addition, there are other fast-casual restaurants that compete with Zaxby's. For example, Panera Bread, Chipotle, and even Sonic are considered to be major Zaxby's competitors. Finally, standard chain restaurants are also considered to be competitors at Zaxby's, such as Applebee's, Chili's, and Fuddruckers. Zaxby’s has to go up against different types of restaurants depending on where it is located.
Right now, approximately two-thirds of the country does not have a Zaxby's location. Zaxby's has expanded relatively quickly during the past few decades, and there is a chance that Zaxby's could open up more locations down the road. Right now, Zaxby's appears to be opening up new branches in the states where it is already located, but if there is a demand for Zaxby's outside of these locations, the restaurant chain could change course. It is important for people to keep their eyes open to see if Zaxby's will expand moving forward.
