It is also the fourth most populous in the entire country, boasting a population of 137,810. The urban area has a population of 420,000, while the metro area has over 1.2 million residents.

The language most commonly spoke here is French, which is spoken by over 98,000 residents. German is the second most common language but is only spoken by 4.3% of residents.
A large number of residents are younger, with 16.8% between the ages of 20 and 29 and 17.6% between the ages of 30 and 39.
