The company’s name is an acronym that combines the founder’s initials (Ingvar Kamprad), the farm where he grew up (Elmtaryd), and his hometown (Agunnaryd). Ikea entered the U.S. market in 1985, opening its first store in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania. Since then, it has expanded rapidly, becoming a household name known for its affordable, stylish furniture and unique shopping experience.
