The city’s residents mainly speak Spanish, which is the official language. However, additional native languages such as Quichua are spoken throughout the city. English is a common second language that is taught in Quito. Approximately 80% of the population are mestizos. The majority of the population identify their religion as Roman Catholic. There are also communities of Mormons and Jews that reside in Quito.
