The largest city in Haiti is Port-au-Prince, with a population of 1,633,591 people.
Haiti is a sovereign state that shares the Caribbean island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic to its east. Its capital and most populous city is Port-au-Prince, which sits on the Gulf of Gonave. The city has a population of 1.6M. Port-au-Prince is famous for its brightly colored gingerbread-style houses that date back to the nineteenth century. The city was devastated by the 2010 earthquake, with many buildings destroyed and 230,000 people killed.
Cap-Haitien, on Haiti’s north coast, is a commune that is home to around 363.8K people, and is the country’s second-largest city. A historically wealthy city, Cap-Haitien was once known as The Paris of the Antilles because of its architectural and artistic heritage. Cap-Haitien has been an increasingly important part of the country since the earthquake in 2010, as it was not as badly damaged as other areas and was able to function as the headquarters of the recovery effort in the aftermath.
