The United States of America
In 2022, over 24 million people in the United States were millionaires, solidifying the country’s position as home to the largest number of millionaires globally. While the total number of millionaires worldwide declined slightly that year, the U.S. continued to represent the enduring ideal of the ‘American Dream’—a place where individuals can arrive with little and work their way to financial success.
Many in the USA have made their fortunes from oil, engineering, and international trade. The computer boom of the last 40 years has also created more than a few millionaires.
China
China has developed a manufacturing industry of unprecedented proportions and invested in methods of shipping their wares around the world. Chinese leverage their high workforce, sourced from their high population, to do this.
As a result, entrepreneurs and business leaders have reaped the benefits. There are almost 6.2 million millionaires in China according to the 2022 report.
China has become known as the “World’s Factory.” But will it retain this reputation for long? Or will other high population countries such as India and Indonesia start to take their market share? Only time will tell.
Japan
It might be surprising that Japan hosts the third largest number of millionaires. According to some reports, there are over 3.36 millionaires in Japan. This country is often known as the technology capital of the world. Many millionaires were created through investing in the automotive and electronics industries.
Germany
Sixth on the list, Germany is famous as a country with a strong economy and excellent engineering pedigree; but did you know it had so many millionaires?
Europe’s largest economy reportedly hosts almost 2.7 million millionaires. Germany excels in four main industries:

- Chemical
- Electrical industries
Such well-known German brands as Audi, Siemens, and others immediately come to mind as world leaders in these areas.
