States without National Parks 2026

National parks are iconic symbols of America’s natural beauty and conservation efforts, drawing millions of visitors each year to explore their breathtaking landscapes and diverse ecosystems. While some states boast multiple national parks, others have yet to be designated with these cherished protected areas.

Among the states without national parks are Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, and many others. Despite their absence of designated national parks, these states still offer their own unique natural wonders and outdoor recreational opportunities, ranging from scenic forests and rolling hills to pristine coastlines and historic landmarks.

For example, Alabama is home to the picturesque Gulf Shores and the stunning Talladega National Forest, while Illinois boasts the majestic Shawnee National Forest and the scenic Starved Rock State Park. Similarly, Connecticut offers the serene beauty of Sleeping Giant State Park, and Georgia features the breathtaking landscapes of the Chattahoochee National Forest. Although these states may not have national parks, they showcase the rich natural heritage and beauty that make America’s landscapes so remarkable.

However, it’s worth noting that several states without national parks have iconic national monuments, historic sites, and other protected areas managed by the National Park Service. These sites, while not designated as national parks, still offer opportunities for outdoor recreation, education, and conservation. Overall, whether exploring the rugged coastline of Maine or the rolling plains of Iowa, each state without a national park presents its own unique treasures waiting to be discovered and appreciated by visitors and locals alike.
