Kamloops is located in the Thompson-Nicole Regional District of British Columbia. It is the largest city in the region and is ranked as 37th on the list of metro areas throughout Canada. Kamloops houses the district's regional offices and was originally one of three tribal settlements in the area. Today Kamloops is a mecca for both industry as well as education and is also one of the fastest growing cities in the region with no signs of slowing down.

In addition to these, the Aboriginal religion is .29%, and other religions make up .68% of the overall population.

History

The gold rush of the 1860s brought further growth, resulting in the City of Kamloops being incorporated in 1893 with a population of about 500. By 1911, the population had grown to nearly 4,000 and again doubled by 1951 to just over 8,000 residents. By 1976, the town had increased to over 58,000.
