Population of Cities in Guatemala 2023
The Central American country of Guatemala is home to rainforests, volcanoes and ancient Mayan sites. Its capital, Guatemala City, is the most populous city in Central America, with more than 2.1 million residents. Guatemala City is the economic, administrative and cultural center of the country, and its main transportation hub. The city has many art galleries, theaters and museums, in addition to an historic center and plenty of parks and green spaces. There are two active volcanoes near the city, and it also lies within the 'Ring of Fire', making it prone to earthquakes.
Located just 16 kilometers south of Guatemala City is the country's second-largest city, Villa Nueva. With a population of 1.5 million people, the city is an important producer of textiles and plastics, as well as agricultural products such as rice, dairy, fruits, and vegetables. Villa Nueva is also home to the Naciones Unidas National Park, one of the last remaining nature reserves in the metropolitan area of Guatemala City.
