Jordan’s population is about 10.2 million people. Jordan is the world’s 88th-most populous country and currently grows at a rate of 1.00% annually. Its capital and most-populous city is Amman, home to about 1.81 million people. Amman’s population has nearly doubled since 1994, when it was around 990,000. The capital also acts as the city’s cultural, economic, and political center. This is the only city with more than 1 million people. The second-largest city is Zarqa, with over 635,000 people, and Irbid, with over 500,000 people. Currently, 16 cities in Jordan have over 100,000 people and comprise over half of the country’s population.
Jordan’s urban population is about 91.4% of its total population. As Jordan continues to grow, the urban population is expected to continue growing too.
