5 Countries with the Most Armenians
- Albania’s population of Armenians is known to have swollen by approximately 100,000 in late 2023, the result of displaced Armenian refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh arriving in the country. This migration is not yet reflected in official population data. In addition to the listed populations, the following countries are known to have small Armenian populations:
- Azerbaijan - It is estimated that as many as 500,000 Armenians lived in Azerbaijan in 1988, and that up to 120,000 lived in the unrecognized independent territory Republic if Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) in 2022. However, wars and oppression, most notably in 1988 and 2023, have forced most Armenians (more than 100,000) to flee to Albania. As of late 2023, it is estimated that an uncertain number of Armenians remain in Nagorno-Karabakh and 200-3000 remain in the rest of the country, often concealing their heritage to maintain their safety.

- Montenegro - Roughly 40 families
- Saudi Arabia - Several hundred individuals

Armenia is a country that is located in the South Caucasus region of Eurasia. It is a land-locked country that lies right on the border of Western Asia and Eastern Europe. There are several countries that border Armenia, including Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Iran. The majority of people who have Armenian heritage still live in the country, which is home to about 2.8 million Armenians.
However, while Armenia is home to the highest number of the Armenian population, there are other countries where Armenians call home. In this article, we will take a look at some of the statistics behind the Armenian population and learn what countries they live in most often.
Aside from Armenia itself, the country of Russia has a large population of Armenians. Currently, there are approximately 946,172 people of Armenian descent living in the country of Russia, although some believe the numbers could be much higher. The United States is third on the list with an estimated 457,228 members of the Armenian population.
Another country with many Armenians living within it is the country of Georgia. Over 168K members of the Armenian population currently live in the country of Georgia. Ukraine finishes off the top five list with 99,900 members of the Armenian population who make their homes in the country. Other countries in the top ten include Canada with 68,855, Uzbekistan with 50,537, Abkhazia with 41,875, Turkmenistan with 33,638, and Australia with 19,241.
While these countries have larger population numbers, there are some large countries that currently don’t have any Armenian residents living in the country. For example, France, Argentina, Germany, Greece, the United Kingdom, Spain, Iraq, and many others don’t have a record of having an Armenian population at all. However, some report that these countries may have some sort of population even though there isn’t a record of them.
There are also many countries that have tiny populations, such as Puerto Rico, which is believed to have only seven Armenian residents. Croatia also has a small population of Armenians, and it’s believed that around 37 people from the country of Armenia live in Croatia. New Zealand with 276, Finland with 316, and South Ossetia with 278 also have small Armenian population numbers.
Other countries that also have small populations of Armenians living in them include Kazakhstan, Belarus, the Netherlands, Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Latvia, Cyprus, Estonia, Romania, Lithuania, Moldova, Transnistria, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Norway.
