The country of Belgium has a total population that exceeds 11 million. Its residents are spread across cities and town split into provinces. The country has a total of nine provinces, which are Antwerp, Brabant, West Flanders, East Flanders, Hainaut, Liège, Limburg, Luxembourg and Namur. Contributing significantly to the overall population is the city of Brussels. With 1.01 million residents, this is the most populous city in Belgium, and the only city to have surpassed the one million resident milestone. The country also has six cities that have populations ranging between 100,000 and one million, and almost 300 cities that each have a population of at least 10,000 people.

The vast majority of residents live in urbanized areas of the country. As of 2015, just 2% of residents lived in rural areas. This could be attributed to the expansion of cities, as well as migration to urbanized areas for employment, schooling, and access to things including healthcare and entertainment that are offered in the urbanized areas of the country. The population of the country continues to be on a slow but steady incline, which indicates that many of its major cities will continue to see healthy growth well into the future.
