Even though the Netherlands only produces 7 million metric tons of potatoes, the country actually grows about 400 kg of potatoes for every person in the country. Belarus, which is situated on the border of Europe and Asia, also grows a lot of potatoes every year. It is a relatively small country that only grows about 6 million metric tons of potatoes, but it actually produces 644 kg of potatoes per person.

Yes, the United States is the fifth largest producer of potatoes in the world. The United States grows approximately 19 million metric tons of potatoes every year. It sits just behind Ukraine in 5th place. On the other hand, the United States does not actually grow a lot of potatoes per person. It only grows approximately 58 kg of potatoes per person every year. Even though the United States does export potatoes to some surrounding countries, the United States also has to import a lot of potatoes from other countries all over the world.
