In 2013, Netflix had about 35 million subscribers worldwide. That number jumped to almost 125 million by 2018. As of 2023, there are nearly 240 million Netflix subscribers streaming TV shows, movies, comedy specials, and more through the video subscription service.
Netflix is currently available in over 190 countries. However, the service is more popular in some of these countries than in others. Here's a breakdown of the most Netflix users by country in 2023.
Netflix was founded in the U.S. in 1997, so it shouldn't come as any surprise to hear it has the most Netflix users by country in 2023. There are about 67 million Netflix users in the country.
The U.S. is, by far, Netflix's most profitable market. The company generated $31.6 billion in revenue in 2022 with over $14 billion coming from the U.S.
The fact the U.S. is Netflix's largest market won't shock anyone. But people may be surprised to hear Brazil is the second-biggest market for Netflix.
There are more than 15 million Netflix users in Brazil. Netflix brings in over $1 billion in revenue each year from Latin America as a whole.
The United Kingdom doesn't have as many Netflix users as Brazil. It comes up short with about 14 million users.
But the U.K. is the second-largest market for Netflix in terms of revenue. The company pulls in almost $1.5 billion from the UK annually.
Netflix has only been available in Germany for a decade. It has, however, already seen a huge surge in its subscriber base. Germany is home to 13 million Netflix users.
Like Germany, France has only had access to Netflix for a decade. But the streaming service's popularity has soared.
France has over 10 million Netflix users.
These countries have the most Netflix users by country in 2023, but there are others hot on their heels. Mexico (10 million users), Japan (7 million users), Canada (6.7 million users), and Australia (6.5 million users) could climb this list in the coming years.
It may not be long before India starts moving up the list, too. Though it has just 5.5 million users today, Netflix has only been available in India since 2016. It might only be a matter of time before that number doubles or even triples.
