Textiles, ranking as the world’s seventh most traded product, have a total trade amount of approximately 882 billion US Dollars. Leading this industry is China, not only in exports but also in production and retail. In 2022, China’s textile exports, including clothing and accessories, reached $303 billion, marking a 2.53% increase from the previous year.
Bangladesh, the second-largest apparel exporter, shipped textiles worth $57.7 billion in 2022, featuring items like knit t-shirts, non-knit men’s suits, and knit sweaters. Vietnam follows as the third-largest textile exporter, with $48.8 billion in exports, primarily to China, South Korea, Japan, and Canada.
India’s textile industry, employing over 35 million people, exported over $41 billion in 2022, focusing on ready-made garments, cotton textiles, and artificial textiles. Germany, closely trailing India, exported textiles worth $40 billion annually, with Poland, Austria, and France being key destinations.
Turkey, tied for sixth place globally with Italy and third in Europe for textile exports, achieved $36.7 billion in 2022, specializing in products like silk, men’s and women’s clothing, and carpets. Italy, Europe’s top producer, exported $57 billion’s worth of textiles in 2022, notably tracksuits, ski suits, and swimwear.
The United States saw its textile and apparel exports reach $29.8 billion in 2022, an increase of 9.77% from the previous year. Pakistan sees its textile exports valued at around $22.1 billion. And Spain, rounding out the top ten, has textile exports at just over $20 billion, constituting about 2.16% of global textile exports.
