  • On September 16, 2021, World Bank management paused the next Doing Business report and initiated a series of reviews and audits of the report and its methodology.
  • Originally generated by the World Bank, the Ease of Doing Business Index was discontinued after the 2020 report amid concerns about statistical inaccuracy. In particular, concerns existed that the 2018 score for China and 2020 scores for UAE and Saudi Arabia had been artificially raised and the 2019 score for Azerbaijan was artificially raised. Methodology for a planned replacement index, titled Business Ready (B-READY), was published in spring 2023.
  • The first B-READY report was released in 2024 and included 50 countries.
  • Rather than issuing a single overarching score, the B-READY report tracks indicators across 10 topics, which it then compiles into three main pillars: 1: Regulatory Framework, 2: Public Services, and 3: Operational Efficiency.
  • In every case, higher B-READY scores are preferable.
