India holds the second position, producing 200 million metric tons, which is about a third of China’s output. The country’s vegetable production is notably concentrated on ginger and okra. Following India, Nigeria contributes 137.8 million metric tons per year, focusing on a diverse array of crops including cassava, yam, maize, rice, and millet, with a total of 30 different types of vegetables cultivated.
The Dominican Republic, though smaller in scale, makes a significant mark by producing 48.2 million metric tons annually and leading in the cultivation of organic cocoa and bananas. The United States ranks fifth with its production of 47.8 million metric tons, primarily focusing on tomatoes, onions, and sweet corn.
Indonesia and Thailand also play major roles in the global vegetable market. Indonesia produces 34.1 million metric tons with a focus on cabbage, chili, potatoes, and tomatoes. Thailand follows closely with 33.4 million metric tons, concentrating on rice, garlic, and sugarcane.
Ghana and Russia contribute similarly significant amounts. Ghana’s annual production of 33 million metric tons includes primary crops like tomatoes, onions, shallots, and cucumbers. Russia, producing 31.8 million metric tons, mainly focuses on cucumbers and tomatoes.
Turkey completes the top ten list of global vegetable producers with 31.7 million metric tons, specializing in melons, potatoes, and onions. Other notable vegetable-producing countries include Brazil, Ukraine, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Mexico, each contributing significantly to the global vegetable market.
