Mains Electricity by Country 2024

If you travel across the world, you may not be able to plug in your devices in your new destination. Unfortunately, main electrical voltage varies from country to country. Thankfully, travelers can buy adapters that allow them to plug in, no matter where they are, but knowing what the electrical voltage is is important before taking a trip.

Several countries throughout the world use 110 volts for their electrical mains. In addition, Cuba offers both 110V and 220V currents. A 120V electrical main is the standard in the United States. Throughout much of Asia, Africa, and South America, 220V is the most common electrical main. The 230V current is the most common one used in Europe. It is also found in many African countries. If you plan to travel internationally, check the voltage of the country where you plan to visit, and bring the necessary adapters.

  • Voltage in Australia and Malaysia is 230 V officially, but in practice often 240 V.
  • Most sockets in Mongolia are universal sockets which accept either types A & C or types A, B, C, D, E, F, G, I, and O.
  • Most sockets in Somalia are universal sockets which accept types A, B, C, D, E, F, G, I, O, and occasionally J, K, and L.
