The internet is becoming more and more of a necessity as the world grows more connected. But people around the globe can pay dramatically different prices to access the World Wide Web and receive significantly different value for their dollar.

Worldwide, most monthly bills range from around $20 to just over $50. Residents of the United Arab Emirates pay the highest average internet cost at $98.84 per month, followed by nearby Qatar at $92.04 monthly. There's a substantial drop to third place, Oman, where people spend an average of $76.99 per month on internet. Honduras takes fourth place ($72.28), followed by Saudi Arabia ($70.75.) The United States sits in sixth place at $67.57 per month. Of the ten most expensive nations, half are located in the Middle East.

On the flip side, some countries pay far less to get online. In Ukraine, residents' average bills are $5.62, followed by Russia at $8.17 monthly. Romania ($8.25), Turkey ($8.77), Moldova ($9.14), India ($9.48), and Sri Lanka ($9.48) all provide internet for less than $10 monthly. Both Europe and Asia are fairly evenly represented among the ten cheapest countries for internet services.

However, it's also vital to consider the internet speeds residents of each country are getting for their money. By this metric, Lebanon is the most expensive at $6.79 per month per megabyte per second, followed by Kenya ($5.50/month/Mbps) and Nigeria ($4.89/month/Mbps.) African nations typically see the highest costs when speeds are considered. Conversely, Romania stands out for providing internet at just $0.06 per month per Mbps (part of an average monthly bill of just $8.25.) China provides internet at $0.08/month/mbps, while in Thailand and Moldova, it's just $0.10/month/mbps. In the United States, it's $0.45 per month per mbps. Asia and Europe are home to most of the world's cheapest internet as a function of speed.
