Domain names for countries are determined by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority, which began officially providing a domain name by country in 2018, although the United States began using .us in 1985. They are a relatively new registration for domain names for the Internet.
Every domain name by country is two letters long and is developed by using the letters in the nation’s name. These two letters are called the country code to- level domain or also the ccTLD. Every country that uses these domain names must comply with international regulations.
Today, approximately 40 percent of the world’s millions of domain name registrations are ccTLDs. The first use began in 1985 with .us for the United States. Today there are over 300 ccTLDs, and over 156 million websites using ccTLDs by March 2021.
