There are a lot of people who are curious about the fastest-growing country in the world, particularly when it comes to population. Some people might be surprised to hear that the fastest-growing countries in the world are located in Africa. For example, Niger, Angola, Benin, and Uganda are all growing at more than 3 percent per year in terms of their overall population. Given that Africa tends to struggle when it comes to natural resources, it may come as a bit of a surprise, but these countries are growing and expanding rapidly, particularly as their economies continue to grow and expand as well.
Right now, the most populous country in the world is China. Even though China’s population has remained relatively stagnant during the past few decades, particularly because of the one-child policy, China remains the largest country in the world in terms of overall population. India is another country that is growing quickly, and it is the only other country on Earth with a population of more than 1 billion. It has also gotten rid of the one-child policy to start growing again. Some of the other countries that are particularly large include the United States, Russia, and Brazil. It remains to be seen whether the United States will catch China or India in population.
If you take a look at the graph of how quickly countries are growing, it is possible that African countries, such as Niger, Angola, and Uganda, could eventually catch China and India. In terms of percentage, China and India are not growing as quickly as those African countries; however, those African countries are not going to grow at the same rate in perpetuity. Eventually, they are not going to have enough land to support a growing population, and their food resources will start to run out. The reality is that they do not have as much geographic space as China or India, so their population growth is eventually going to be limited. It is only a question of when that might happen.
Right now, the United States is still growing, but there is a significant amount of doubt related to whether it will continue growing in the future. There are a few reasons behind this. First, many members of the younger generation are holding off on having children because the cost of living, particularly student loans, has made it very difficult for them to afford to have children. Second, the children of baby boomers are getting older. Therefore, there are a lot of people in the United States who are going to start to die of old age during the next few decades. As a result, the United States might not continue to grow at the same rate, and it may actually shrink in the future.
